Water treatment plants

50 TPD working plant — 50,000 L/day · ~0.0204 cusec

Water treatment plants

Dirty sewage in. Safe water out.

This plant treats dirty sewage from houses, toilets and kitchens so the water is clean enough to discharge. Working duty is 50 tons per day — 50,000 litres, about 0.0204 cusec. Larger sites add the same train.

Five stages: take out big solids, balance the flow, let bacteria work, filter through an MBR, then chlorine dioxide. Some sludge is returned so the tanks keep their bacteria. One operator and two helpers. Civil: equalization tank, sludge tank, equipment pad and a small room.

Simple working

Simple working.

Screen → mix → anaerobic / anoxic / aerobic → MBR → chlorine dioxide → discharge.

  1. 01

    Septic tank

Dirty water first sits in a septic tank. Heavy solids settle. Breakdown starts.

  2. 02

    Grating screen

A metal screen takes plastic, cloth, food pieces and large solids so pumps and membranes do not choke.

  3. 03

    Equalization tank

Tank is 2.5 m across and 6 m high. It mixes the sewage, steadies the flow and stops sudden load. Anaerobic bacteria are added here.

  4. 04

    Three biological tanks

Anaerobic (no air) breaks big molecules. Anoxic (low air) takes nitrogen and ammonia. Aerobic contact oxidation — blowers, pipes, bio media — lets bacteria eat what is left. Low sludge. Easy to run.

  5. 05

    Sludge recycle

Some sludge goes back to the earlier tanks so the plant keeps its bacteria and cleans better.

  6. 06

    MBR then chlorine dioxide

Membrane bio-reactor filters bacteria, suspended solids and fines. Clear water goes to a disinfection tank. Chlorine dioxide kills bacteria and E. coli. Then the water is discharged.

Duty and cost

50 tons a day. Same train, more sewage.

Working plant is 50 TPD — 50,000 litres a day, about 0.0204 cusec. Raise the flow and the same septic–A²O–MBR–chlorine dioxide line scales.

E1 = (motor kW × ₹8.50/kWh × 20 h × 0.8) ÷ tons per day. At 50 TPD that is (5.6 × 8.50 × 20 × 0.8) ÷ 50 = ₹15.23. Dosing ₹4.18. Total ₹19.41 per 1,000 litres. Tariff varies by state.
